UdyogNews Special | Kurkumbh Correspondent
Located along the Pune–Solapur National Highway, Kurkumbh MIDC Industrial Area is widely recognised as one of Maharashtra’s major hubs for chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturing. While the industrial estate has generated significant employment and contributed to regional economic growth, local residents and social activists have repeatedly alleged that certain industrial premises may be involved in unauthorised activities, including the illegal handling or manufacture of industrial spirit, drug-related chemicals, or other unlicensed operations.
These recurring allegations have led to growing public concern regarding the effectiveness of regulatory oversight and inspection mechanisms by the concerned authorities.
🔴 Are all industrial units subjected to regular and on-site inspections?
🔴 Do the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), and other regulatory departments conduct coordinated joint inspections?
🔴 How effectively is the verification carried out between approved manufacturing activities and actual production taking place within industrial premises?
🔴 Is there continuous monitoring of the storage, handling, transportation, and disposal of hazardous chemicals?
🔴 Have complaints regarding the illegal dumping of hazardous industrial waste near the National Highway or in open areas been thoroughly investigated?
Residents have repeatedly alleged that hazardous industrial waste is being illegally dumped at certain locations within and around the industrial area. If such incidents are occurring, they could potentially result in serious environmental and public safety risks, including chemical reactions, fires, toxic emissions, groundwater contamination, and long-term ecological damage.
Environmental experts maintain that such allegations warrant immediate scientific investigation, laboratory testing of samples, and appropriate legal action against those found responsible.
Industrial development must go hand in hand with strict regulatory compliance and environmental responsibility. Citizens are therefore seeking answers to several important questions:
